Doris (Lindon) Rath passed away at age 91 on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Carepoint Health Bayonne Medical Center following a short illness surrounded by her family. Doris graduated on May 25, 1948 from the Bayonne Hospital School of Nursing. She went on to work for 46 years at Bayonne hospital, retiring in 1996. Following her retirement, she often stopped by the hospital floor where she worked to dropped off snacks for the Doctors and staff. She continued to be active in the Bayonne Nursing School Alumni Organization as Secretary and recently organized their 2016 Holiday gathering.
Doris was born on April 16, 1925 in Bayonne, New Jersey and was a city resident her entire life. She married Joseph Rath on February 5, 1949. And raised her 2 sons while working at Bayonne Hospital as a registered nurse
Doris was predeceased by her husband Joseph Rath, her parents Clara (Hill ) and Emil Lindon and three brothers Albert Lindon, Roy Lindon, and Donald Lindon as well as her brother-in-laws, Dennis O’Donnell, and John (Jack) Rath. Doris is survived by her two sons, James and wife Eileen (Campbell) of Summit, NJ, and Joseph and wife Elaine (King) of Avondale, Arizona. Doris was so proud to have three loving grandchildren, Andrew Rath of Fayetteville, North Carolina, James and Bridget Rath of Summit, NJ. She is also survived by two sisters, Carol O’Donnell of Rohnert Park, California, and Arlene and husband Charles Shipley of Belle Mead, NJ, and sister-in law Margaret (Mae) (Campbell) Rath as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.
We have lost the sweetest, good-hearted and caring woman who was Mom, Nanny, sister, aunt, friend and nurse. Doris always sent cards to all her extended family at birthdays and holidays and especially loved Snoopy cards. The family appreciates the efforts of the ICU staff of Carepoint Bayonne Medical Center and the special care given by Doctor Ira Brooks.
Viewing Friday, March 17, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sweeney Funeral Home Bayonne. Funeral Services are at 10 AM on Saturday, March 18, 2017 followed by burial at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ.
